*Sunday: 8 am – 12 pm (Optional Cadaver Dissection)

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the course, attendees should be able to:

• Understand basic MSK anatomy

pertinent to ultrasound

• Perform basic MSK ultrasound

exams of the major joints of the

upper/lower extremity

• Identify advantages/disadvantages

of MSK ultrasound as an imaging

modality

• Recognize the main MSK ultrasound

imaging pitfalls and artifacts

• Become familiar with the spectrum

of MSK ultrasound-guided

interventional procedures

Photograph taking, video recording or audio recording is NOT permitted during this meeting at any time unless specifically clarified or approved by the MSKUS Course organizers.

Clothing
This is a hands-on course, there will be hours of standing, be sure to wear comfortable close-toed footwear. We will provide gowns, you are not required to wear scrubs, but it is recommended.

MSKUS Cadaver Courses provide two days of intensive and interactive learning– taught by
highly trained faculty – that you can put to immediate use in your practice. The courses are
designed to provide you with the proper training essential to perform consistent and high-
quality examinations and ultrasound-guided injections.

Participants will be placed in small groups to learn and practice
interventional and diagnostic ultrasound techniques and ultrasound guidance for joint
injections. Cadavers will be used for hands-on practice.

• Gain familiarity with the anatomy of the extremities
• Understand machine knobology
• Recognize artifacts produced by ultrasound
• Master probe manipulation and image standards
• Identify common sites of pathology
• Evaluate the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and surrounding soft tissue
• Demonstrate the dynamic examinations of tendons and joints
• Become familiar with ultrasound guided interventional techniques
• Gain experience with various ultrasound machines
